Lenten Prayer as CtK #inheritance #lent2015

Prayer:
Gracious Lord,
You have given us a great inheritance, the promise of your saving love. Continue to call us to serve all people with this love, and to carry the hope of your life in every place we go. Amen.

Thought:
This is a picture of our dog, Raven. She is a Bassador, a cross between a Basset Hound and a Black Lab, and the way she looks, the short legs, the floppy ears, and black coat are a result of inheriting traits of both breeds of dogs. She may look a little strange to some, but we love her.

We as humans also inherit much from our ancestors. Of course there are some physical things we inherit, and also certain proclivities in regards to disease and health as well. We also inherit the behaviors of the families we are born into. Some of these, many of these are wonderful. We can learn how to love and share, and so many other great things.

Yet, no matter where or who we are, we inherit the sin of the generations that have gone before us. The ways of being that aren't so good are passed on in the behaviors and actions from one generation to the next. We also inherit a world that is full of sin, and can be victimized by that sin from the day we are born. Our human inheritance is mixed at best.

What Good News it is, that through the grace of God and the life of Christ, we have been reborn in the waters of Baptism, and we've been given the new DNA, so to speak, of Jesus Christ. This is a goodly inheritance, a godly inheritance, an inheritance of love and life so abundant that it washes away our old lives and spills over into all of creation. This is an inheritance that is not necessarily given "to us" but through us, so that all of the world, a world trapped by sin and suffering, may be washed and recreated in God's abundant life.

About Lenten Prayer as CtK:
During Lent, I am inviting all of you at Christ the King, and anyone who would be willing to join us, to engage in praying together, seeking to hear God and be guided by Christ's life in our life together. To guide these prayers, I will be posting pictures centered around a word for the day. This comes from the facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/LENTPHOTOADAY. Please feel free to join me in posting pictures and thoughts to your social media accounts or to the comments of this blog.
